Public Eye

In the face of the public eye

They always watch closely

Be sure to look the part

Don’t make yourself seem lonely

Put on a smile

Wipe away the tears

You need to be seen not heard

You can be different behind closed doors

But make sure they’re fully closed

With the public eye comes the judgement day

Others will not like you

You won’t like what they have to say

Put on an act

Put on a show

The less you speak

The more they think they know

Because you are not strong enough to be your “true authentic self”

And they know this so they beat you ‘til you’re at your breaking point

Your “cries for help” are nothing seen nor heard behind the closed doors

No matter what you do or say every day is judgement day

In the face of the public eye

They will laugh if you will cry

Each day is harder to wake up because you know it’s all a show

You cannot run

You chose this life

This is how you are now seen

If you choose to break it

Your record is no longer “clean”

Don’t show them your emotions

Smile and nod

Play the part

You aren’t yourself anymore

In the face of the public eye

Nobody seems to care

Until you seem to die
